The number of stranded tourists has risen to 240,000 as anti-government protesters continued to block Bangkok’s international airports, Thailand’s Tourism Minister Weerasak Kowsurat said Monday.

The protesters, led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy, occupied Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Tuesday last week before they blockaded and shut down the Don Mueang Airport.

The alliance is calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, whom they accuse of running the government on behalf of his brother-in-law, ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
